QHS softball team brings out bats while picking up victory over Sacred Heart-Griffin
QUINCY — The Quincy High School softball team showed up ready to swing.
Five of the first six Blue Devils to bat in the first inning Friday collected hits, including four extra-base knocks, as a four-run frame set the stage for an 8-4 victory over Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin at the QHS field. Quincy collected 15 hits overall.
Ivy Winter led off the bottom of the first with a double and went to third on Ariana Adorno’s bunt single. Adorno stole second during Maycee Seward’s at-bat before both runners scored on passed ball during Maggie Neally’s at-bat.
Neally’s patience paid off as she belted a home run to left field. Avary Hlubek and Mia Ellefritz smacked back-to-back doubles to plate the fourth run of the frame.
Quincy (12-19) tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning as Winter, Adorno and Seward delivered back-to-back-to-back singles with Winter scoring on a wild pitch. After an out on the basepaths, Neally singled and Hlubek delivered a two-run double to left field.
Izzy Weppler doubled leading off the fifth for the Blue Devils and scored on Kendyl Byquist’s sacrifice fly.
Winter, Neally and Hlubek each went 3 for 4, while Adorno had two hits. Weppler earned the victory in the circle, striking out six and walking three.
