PAYSON, Ill. — Megan Kirby shined at the plate and Bryn Buescher starred in the pitcher’s circle for the Payson Seymour softball team on Tuesday. Kirby hit two home runs, and Buescher tossed a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Illini West.

Buescher, a senior right-hander, completed all seven innings on just 66 pitches, 49 for strikes. She only struck out two batters but walked just one. Two of the four hits she surrendered came with two outs in the top of the seventh, but she got Kennedy Gunning to line out with runners on second and third to end the game.

The Indians scratched across a run in the bottom of the second inning when Grace Klitz scored on a squeeze bunt by Leah Kirby. Megan Kirby blasted a two-run home run the next inning to extend the lead to 3-0, and she homered again in her next at-bat to tack on the Indians’ fourth run.

Payson Seymour (11-10-1) will face Winchester West Central on the road on Wednesday, while Illini West (9-17) will play host to Quincy High School on Friday.
