HANNIBAL, Mo. — The speed Reid Holliday showcases as a wide receiver on the Hannibal football team and a small forward on the basketball team has proven to be useful on the baseball field as well.

With the Pirates tied at one with Fulton and with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning of Thursday’s North Central Missouri Conference game, Holliday stole third base and scored on a wild pitch two pitches later to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

Cooper Scott then worked around a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh by retiring the next three batters, earning the Pirates a victory at Veterans Sports Complex.

Azariah Tucker started the game on the mound for the Pirates and worked the first six innings before giving way to Scott. Tucker gave up two hits, struck out three and walked four.

The Pirates mustered just three hits and had one hit after the first inning, during which Scott scored on a passed ball after leading off the game with a single. Ethan Milius’ sacrifice fly in the top of the third tied the game at one.

Hannibal (8-11, 4-4 NCMC) continues conference play against Marshall at home on Friday.
