Raiders extend winning streak to four, have won nine of last 10 after routing Payson Seymour
QUINCY — Sophomore starter Sam Klauser allowed one earned run in four innings of work, and two freshmen combined for three scoreless innings in relief as the Quincy Notre Dame baseball team defeated Payson Seymour 10-2 on Monday night.
The victory was the fourth straight for the Raiders (10-4), who have won nine of their last 10 games. Mnday’s game was played at Ferd Niemann Jr. Memorial Ballfield after Sunday’s rain made the field at Payson Seymour unplayable.
Notre Dame started the offense quickly when freshman Rowan Stegeman hit a homer to left with two outs in the first inning. After walking two QND batters, Indians starter Mason Haden hit three straight batters — Logan Sutton, Oliver Triplett and Kaden Marth — to drive in two more runs.
Payson Seymour scored in its half of the first, but QND replied with two in the top of the second when Eli Johnson doubled and Abram Wiewel homered. Dalton Phillips hit a sacrifice fly to score a run for the Indians in the bottom of the second, but Marth’s sacrifice fly in the third scored another run for the visitors.
The score remained 6-2 until the seventh. QND’s Gavin Doellman singled and eventually reached third on an error. Sutton singled to left to score on run, and a fielder’s choice by Triplett scored another run. Marth sand Weston Reyburn then hit RBI singles.
Klauser allowed five hits and walked none while striking out four to earn the victory. Marth threw two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Stegeman finished up, allowing one hit in the seventh.
Blake Schwartz had three hits for Payson Seymour.
