Liberty softball team backs John’s pitching with nine unanswered runs in victory over Payson Seymour
LIBERTY, Ill. — The Liberty softball team trailed 3-2 after 2½ innings, then scored nine unanswered runs to post an 11-3 victory over Payson Seymour on Thursday afternoon.
Chandler John earned the victory, striking out eight, allowing five hits, three walks and one unearned run.
Payson Seymour scored twice in the second inning, then Abby Hagerbaumer drove in a run in the top of the third. Liberty took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the third. Ava Heming hit a solo homer, and an error led to the go-ahead run.
The Eagles added single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings on a sacrifice fly by Heming and an RBI single by Camdyn Ormond. Liberty then added five runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homer from Anna Dietrich, to put the game away.
Andi Mixer had two hits for Liberty (12-4). Hagerbaumer had two hits for the Indians (6-7-1).
