INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its weekly honors for baseball on Monday, April 14, naming Kobe Essien as the league’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 7-13.
Essien tossed a seven-inning shutout in a 17-0 victory over No. 18-ranked Lewis on April 11. The Hawks’ right-hander becomes the second member of the baseball team to earn a conference award this season, following Matt Mateo’s Player of the Year recognition of March 31.
Essien earned his second victory of the season, scattering seven hits, a walk and two hit batters over seven scoreless frames. The Mahomet native had nine strikeouts to move into a tie for seventh in the league in strikeouts (49) this season.
