JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Quincy University women’s softball team had a chance to climb out of the Great Lakes Valley Conference cellar but suffered a doubleheader loss to Lincoln University on Sunday by scores of 2-0 and 10-2.

The Blue Tigers (15-25) improved to 6-16 in league play, while Quincy’s losing streak was ended to five games. The Hawks (7-33) are 3-19 in league play. With eight games remaining to play, QU is in danger of winning the fewest games (during a non-COVID season) since going 8-28 in 2002.

Hawks pitcher Kaelyn Conger allowed just three hits and three walks in six innings in the first game. Lincoln scored runs in the second and fifth.

Quincy loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh on singles by Emma Steiferman, Alli Kaiser and Jessie Martin. However, Alexus Freeman struck out, Lindsay Fischer’s ground ball resulted in a forceout at home, and Isabelle Shields struck out to end the game.

The Hawks scored in the first inning of the second game when Shields walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Kenzie Moss’ double. However, Lincoln took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first, then added five more runs in the second to cruise to an easy victory.

Fischer, a Quincy Notre Dame graduate, hit her first career home run in the fourth for the Hawks.
