CANTON, Mo. — Davin Meyer carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the first game of a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday, but he needed an RBI single by Ryan Osso in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 1-0 victory over Graceland (Iowa) College at Nichols Field.

Clayton Woods completed the strong pitching for the Wildcats, not allowing a run until the sixth inning as they completed a sweep with an 11-2 victory. C-SC improved to 10-16, 4-10 in the Heart.

Meier, a graduate of Central High School and a native of Camp Point, Ill., didn’t allow his first hit until there was one out in the sixth inning. He walked three and struck out six in earning his first victory of the year.

He escaped trouble in the third when he walked two batters but induced a groundout and a strikeout. Graceland threatened in the sixth when it collected its only two hits of the game, but Meyer got the third out on a fly ball to center.

Graceland’s Jacob Abernethy held the Wildcats to three hits through the first six innings to keep the game scoreless. Bryan Barreto started the winning rally with a one-out double, and Harry Oden’s infield single sent courtesy runner Eli Friend to third. After a pitching change and an intentional walk to Jeremian Morris loaded the bases, Osso hit a dribbler through the right side to score Friend.

Woods scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out six in the nightcap. Woods, who improved to 4-2 this season, walked one and struck out six.

The Wildcats plated four runs in the first inning and never trailed. Oden led the Wildcats’ 15-hit attack with four hits and three runs batted in. Tristan Meny had three hits, including a solo home run, scored four runs and drove in two runs. Jaison Andujar hit a two-run homer, and Morris also collected two hits.

The Wildcats and Graceland will conclude the four-game series on Tuesday, April 1, with another doubleheader at Nichols Field.
