Photo gallery: Quincy University celebrates 75th anniversary of Pepsi Arena with split decision
QUINCY — Quincy University celebrated the 75th anniversary of Pepsi Arena on Saturday with a $5,000 winner, a Hall of Fame induction and a split decision on the court.
The QU men’s basketball team rallied in the second half for an 82-75 victory over Maryville in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, ending a nine-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the QU women’s basketball team had its 15-game win streak snapped by a 94-86 loss to Maryville.
At halftime of the men’s game, Zack Aschemann made a half-court shot in the Refreshment Services Pepsi Shootout to win the $5,000 grand prize, while earlier in the day, QU inducted Edsel Bester, a two-sport athlete known for his exploits as a baseball player, in the school’s Hall of Fame.
