Three area junior high girls volleyball teams to compete in IESA state quarterfinals

QUINCY — Three teams will represent this area in the Illinois Elementary School Association eighth grade girls state volleyball tournaments beginning Friday.

In Class 1A, Southeastern reached the quarterfinals with a 25-13, 25-12 victory over Greenfield in the Carrollton Sectional championship. The Suns (19-2-1) will face Cornell at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Central A&M MIddle School in Assumption, Ill.

In Class 3A, Quincy Catholic advanced to the elite eight by beating Riverton 25-16, 25-22 in the Pleasant Plains Sectional. The Crusaders (20-1) will face Staunton at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Pana High School.

In Class 4A, Quincy Junior High School punched its ticket with a 25-22, 25-21 victory over Edwardsville Liberty at the Chatham Glenwood Sectional. The Comets (19-1) will face Minooka at 7 p.m. Friday at Mahomet-Seymour High School.

All semifinal, third-place and championship matches will be played Saturday.
