Guthrie closes with birdie barrage to post top-five finish in Korn Ferry Tour event in Bahamas
GREAT ABACO, Bahamas — Luke Guthrie wasn’t going to allow one wayward hole to derail his chance at a top-10 finish.
After taking a triple bogey on the par-4 ninth hole Wednesday in the final round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, the Quincy native was 1-over at the turn and had fallen into a tie for 21st. He started the day tied for 10th.
Guthrie responded with a vengeance. He made birdie on the par-3 10th and shot 6-under 30 over the final nine holes, including rolling in birdies on the final three holes, to catapult himself to an 18-under 270 finish and a tie for fifth place.
It is Guthrie’s highest finish on the Korn Ferry Tour since he tied for fourth at the Evans Scholars Invitational in May 2019.
Guthrie has made the cut in back-to-back events to open the Korn Ferry Tour season and currently sits 12th in the points standings.
