PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — A tough nine-hole stretch Saturday ruined Luke Guthrie’s chance to fight for a PGA Tour card.

If he can flip the script, there’s still a chance he could improve his Korn Ferry Tour status for next season.

The Quincy native played the first nine holes of the third round of the Q-School’s final stage in 5-over, taking a double bogey on the second hole on the Sawgrass Country Club course and carding a 40 at the turn. He shot 1-under 34 on the back nine to post a 4-over 74, but it dropped him into a tie for 86th in the 170-player field.

The top five golfers at the end of Sunday’s round receive their PGA Tour card for the 2025 season. Golfers finished Nos. 6-30 receive Korn Ferry Tour status for 2025 and are guaranteed 12 starts before the third reshuffle.

Guthrie is guaranteed Korn Ferry Tour status and eight starts after earning individual medalist honors at the second stage of Q-School.

It’s a long shot, but he currently sits five strokes out of the top 30 and is scheduled to play the Dye’s Valley Course on Sunday. He is scheduled to tee off at 8:20 a.m.
