LaHarpe seventh grade girls basketball team wins IESA state championship

ASSUMPTION, Ill. — The LaHarpe seventh grade girls basketball team overcame a first-quarter deficit and marched to a 32-24 victory over Carrollton St. John in Thursday night’s Illinois Elementary School Association Class 7-1A state championship game.

The Eagles trailed 11-6 after the first quarter, but outscored the Redbirds 11-4 in the second quarter and never trailed again.

LaHarpe finishes with a 25-3 record.

Journey Miller led the Eagles with 15 points, while Aly Wibbell and Kinley Thompson scored six points apiece.

In the third-place game, Liberty shut out Normal Epiphany in the first quarter and held on for a 19-16 victory. The Eagles finished with a 21-6 record. Serah Mixer led Liberty with nine points.
