Editor’s Note: Quincy Notre Dame will hold its Hall of Fame induction ceremony at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday between games of the 2024 QND Tip-Off Tourney at The Pit. Below is the biography used by the QND Hall of Fame committee to honor one of this year’s inductees.

QUINCY — Anytime someone from Quincy Notre Dame called, Steve Havermale answered. He truly was one of the behind-the-scenes heroes, typically with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver in his hands.

Havermale, who was a 1967 graduate of Christian Brothers, volunteered as a ticket taker at QND home sporting events for more than 30 years, but he did so much more.

A career spent working in electronics, first at Gem Electronics and then as one of the founding partners of Alarm Systems Inc. — he later became the sole owner and president of the company — gave Havermale a knack for fixing things. At QND, that often meant he was asked to fix issues with the electronic scoreboards.

He was a member of the “Midnight Crew,” which helped develop and build the softball field and concession stand now known as “The Backyard.” He was an active band parent and mainstay at QND home events until passing away in 2018.
