Hawks unable to seal deal despite late lead, come home after losing twice in regional crossover
FINDLAY, Ohio — The process first-year Quincy University men’s basketball coach Brad Hoyt and his staff are going through involves discovering what needs immediate attention, what can be fixed over time and what gets solved in recruiting.
Finding a way to finish is one of those immediate attention sort of needs.
The Hawks took a 66-65 lead on Cedarville with 3:26 remaining in regulation Saturday courtesy of a Logan Robbins dunk, but Quincy didn’t score thereafter. The Yellowjackets closed the game on a 12-0 run to secure a 77-66 victory in the GMAC/GLVC Regional Crossover at the University of Findlay.
In the closing three minutes, the Hawks (0-2) missed five shots and turned the ball over three times. Meanwhile, the Yellowjackets (1-1) went 2 for 3 from the field and 5 of 8 from thee free-throw line.
Robbins led the Hawks with 16 points, while Ethyn Brown had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Mason Wujek added 11 points and John Kelly III snared 11 rebounds.
