Highland in contention in Class 1, Canton’s Taylor is highest area golfer on state leaderboard

FARMINGTON, Mo. — The Highland girls golf team is in position to challenge for a top-three state finish following the first day of the Class 1 state tournament.

The Cougars posted a 395 team total at Crown Pointe Golf Club and sit in fifth place, just six strokes behind Stover and Greenwood, who are tied for third at 389. South Harrison leads the field at 367, while Duchesne is second at 371. Monroe City is ninth at 442.

Canton senior Hanna Taylor is the top area golfer after the first round, sitting tied for 13th at 91.

Highland junior Morgan Crist is tied for 15th after shooting a 92, while Cougars sophomore Josie Murphy is 34th with a 99 and senior Natalie Bowen is 35th with a 100. Freshman Ava Hudson posted a 104.

South Shelby senior Sofia Eleazarraraz posted a 103, while Canton sophomore Raelyn Merida shot a 105 and South Shelby juniors Charlie Roush and Hannah Gaines each carded a 107.

Monroe City junior Ava Potterfield led the Panthers with a 106, followed by junior Anna Lemongelli at 107, junior Kyndal Benson at 109, sophomore Camryn Hays at 120 and junior Reagan Cheek at 121.

At the Class 3 tournament at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo., Hannibal sophomore Josie Peters is tied for 45th with a 95.
