Game Night Guide: Crucial conference showdowns highlight Week 6
QUINCY — Week 6 got a jumpstart with a pair of lopsided Thursday night affairs with the Quincy High School football team blasting Galesburg 45-0 and Brown County flattening Beardstown 57-0. The rest of the weekend provides critical showdowns in the North Central Missouri Conference, the Clarence Cannon Conference and the Western Illinois Valley Conference Valley North Division.
Friday’s games
Springfield Lanphier (0-5, 0-3 CS8) at Quincy Notre Dame (4-1, 3-0 CS8), 7 p.m.
Did you know?: The Raiders have qualified for the playoffs 25 times since 1994 and will make themselves playoff eligible with a victory. The Lions have scored just five touchdowns this season and have allowed 53.2 points per game.
Hannibal (3-2, 2-0 NCMC) at Kirksville (5-0, 2-0 NCMC), 7 p.m.
Did you know?: The Pirates haven’t lost to the Tigers in more than a quarter century and have averaged 48.8 points over the past 16 meetings. But these Tigers are coached by Hannibal native Gregg Nesbitt, who is a former Hannibal head coach and most recently spent 14 seasons as the head coach at Truman State University.
North Platte (1-4) at South Shelby (5-0), 7 p.m.
Did you know?: The Cardinals step out of Clarence Cannon Conference play to face a team that has scored just two touchdowns in the past two weeks. The Panthers were the Class 1 state runner-up last season, finishing with a 12-2 record.
Unity-Payson (0-5) at Triopia (1-4), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The Trojans are the lowest scoring team in the WIVC North, having managed just five touchdowns and not scoring more than eight points in any of the first four games. The Mustangs are the league’s second lowest scoring team, having been shut out twice in the last three weeks, and they have allowed more points than any other WIVC North team, having given up 197 points.

Did you know?: The Bombers cracked the Class 4A top 10 this week, moving in at No. 10 following the undefeated start. Now comes a showdown on the road as the Farmers look to continue their conference dominance. The Farmers are 42-1 in league play since the start of the 2016 season.

Did you know?: The Chargers are looking to run their win streak to three consecutive games after scoring 94 points the past two weeks. The Bullets have allowed 41 or more points in three of their losses.

Did you know?: With three teams in the Class 2 District 7 field winless through five weeks and South Shelby the undisputed top team in the district, the winner of this game likely earns the No. 2 seed. The other likely will be the No. 3 seed, which means this could be a preview of a postseason showdown between the Clarence Cannon Conference rivals.
Mark Twain (1-4, 0-2 EMO) at Montgomery County (0-5, 0-2 EMO), 7 p.m.
Did you know?: The Tigers have lost four consecutive games since beating Highland in the season opener, and two of the final three games on the schedule are against teams with a combined 9-1 record. It makes picking up a victory this week imperative to receiving a better district seed.
Highland (0-5, 0-2 CCC) at Centralia (3-2, 2-1 CCC), 7 p.m.
Did you know?: The Panthers bounced back from their loss to Monroe City by beating winless Macon and now have the chance to build some momentum before a tough stretch. The final three opponents include two unbeaten teams and Palmyra. Highland had two winless opponents awaiting in the final three weeks.
Saturday’s game
