GRANITE CITY, Ill. — Hunter St. Clair stayed steady. Ty Novosel stayed aggressive. It paid off for both.

The Quincy High School golfers earned individual spots in the Class 3A sectional by finishing in the top 20 during Wednesday’s Class 3A Collinsville Regional at Arlington Greens Golf Course.

The top three teams — Chatham Glenwood at 282, Edwardsville at 289 and Collinsville at 294 — advanced to the sectional being played Monday at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur, along with the top 10 individuals not on those three teams.

That’s where St. Clair and Novosel fell as the Blue Devils finished sixth with a 312.

St. Clair posted 16 pars to go with one birdie and one bogey to post an even-par 72 and finish ninth overall. Novosel shot a 3-over 75 to finish 19th, one stroke below the cutline for sectionals. Novosel made a birdie on the par-5 15th hole, otherwise he would have fallen into a playoff for the final two advancing positions.

Quincy’s Issa Geisendorfer shot an 81 and Tyler O’Brien posted an 84, while the Blue Devils’ Jackson Smith and Andrew Ali both carded 89s.

Alton senior Sam Ottwell won the regional title with a 7-under 65, while Edwardsville’s Mason Lewis was second at 6-under 66. Eight golfers broke par Wednesday.

At the Class 2A Canton Regional at Wee-Ma-Tuk Golf Course, Macomb pushed three individuals to the sectional. Bombers senior Brady Scalf shot an 81 to finish 15th, junior Tobias Royer posted an 84 and senior Nicholas Parkins carded an 85.

They will compete in the Class 2A Champaign Centennial Sectional at the University of Illinois Golf Course on Monday.
