Blue Devils’ Walbring, pair of Macomb golfers qualify for sectionals

GALESBURG, Ill. — Quincy High School senior golfer Ashley Walbring qualified for the Class 2A Normal U-High Sectional by shooting a 94 and finishing tied for 15th in the Galesburg Regional on Tusday at Lake Bracken Country Club.

The Blue Devils finished sixth as a team with a 414. Dunlap won the team title with a 344, followed by Morton (366) and Pekin (374). Dunlap sophomore Sydney Hunt won medalist honors with a 77.

Quincy junior Sophie Schlueter shot a 103, sophomore Alexa Mosley posted a 108, sophomore Karedyn Williams shot a 109, sophomore Bella Struck carded a 111 and freshman Tinley Smith posted a 127.

Meanwhile, the Macomb girls golf team is sending two players to the Class 1A El Paso-Gridley Sectional following their steady play during Tuesday’s Canton Regional at Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club in Cuba, Ill.

The Bombers’ Brenlee Tibbitts finished ninth individually with a 92, while teammate Mullen Butcher shot the best 18-hole round of her career with a 94 to also advance.

Peoria Notre Dame won the team title with a 361. Canton was second at 369 and Illini Bluffs was third at 380. Macomb finished sixth as a team with a 387. Peoria Notre Dame’s Mackenzie Howard won individual medalist honors with an 81.
