Blue Devils’ Novosel, St. Clair earn all-conference honors with top-eight finishes at WB6 golf meet

MOLINE, Ill. — A pair of Quincy High School golfers earned All-Western Big 6 Conference honors Monday, while the Moline boys golf team continued its recent run of dominance in the WB6 championships.

Moline won the team title with a 292, capturing its third consecutive team title. Quincy owns the WB6 record with six consecutive titles from 1986-91. Geneseo finished second at Short Hills Golf Course, posting a 314 total, and was followed by Galesburg at 322, Rock Island at 325, Quincy at 328 and Sterling at 362.

Quincy’s Ty Novosel and Hunter St. Clair each earned first-team all-conference plaudits by finishing in the top eight individually. Novosel was fifth with a 3-over 75, while St. Clair was sixth with a 4-over 76.

Isaac Rumler won the WB6 individual crown after shooting a 5-under 67. The Maroons’ Greer Peters was second with a 3-under 69, followed by Rock Island’s Chase Hadley in third and Geneseo’s Bryson Vanhoutte in fourth. Also earning first-team All-WB6 honors were Galesburg’s Aidan Nelson and Geneseo’s Kwin Vankerrebroeck.

Rumler joins Quincy’s Luke Guthrie (2005 and ‘06), Galesburg’s Chris Cirimotich (1997 and ’98), Quincy’s Chris O’Connell (1989 and ’90) and Quincy’s Dave Fisher (1981 and ’82)  as the only two-time WB6 individual medalists.

Thee Blue Devils wrap up their regular season Saturday in the Galesburg Invitational at Bunker Links Golf Course before playing in the Class 3A Collinsville Regional on Oct. 1 at Arlington Greens Golf Course in Granite City.
