Culver-Stockton names Keokuk’s Moore to coach of men’s, women’s bowling programs
CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College athletic director Pat Atwell recently announced Ryan Moore as the head coach for the men’s and women’s bowling programs. Moore replaces Derek Sapp, who resigned on July 17 to pursue other coaching opportunities.
Moore comes to Culver-Stockton with an extensive background in bowling as head coach of the Keokuk (Iowa) High School bowling program. He has directed the Keokuk girls program to six state championships, three second-place finishes and one third-place finish. On the boys side, Moore led the Chiefs to third-place finishes in 2010 and 2018.
Moore also has coached girls individual state champions in 2009, 2015, 2017 and 2024, and he had a boys runner-up finish in 2017. He has been named the Class 2A State Coach of the Year three times and 2A East District Coach of the Year five consecutive years starting in 2020.
“We are thrilled to have a coach with Ryan’s experience take over our bowling program,” Atwell said in a press release. “He is only the third coach in program history, and we think it will be a seamless transition. Ryan was a tremendously successful high school coach at Keokuk, and he will build upon the strong recruiting ties in that area that Derek Sapp cultivated as the coach. We look forward to the continued growth and success of the program under Ryan’s guidance and welcome him to the Wildcat staff.”
Sapp leaves the Wildcat program after four years. He led the men’s program to three third-place finishes and the women’s program to one third-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Wildcats also qualified for the Intercollegiate Team Sectional Championships during Sapp’s tenure. The women’s program has qualified in the last three years (2022, 2023 and 2024), while the men’s team qualified in three of the last four seasons (2021, 2022 and 2024).
Sapp was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Coach of the Year in 2024 and Co-Coach of the Year in 2022. He was named men’s Co-Coach of the Year in 2024. He coached two NAIA All-Americans, including first-team selection Rachel Moore in 2024. Moore also was named Heart and NAIA Newcomer of the Year. Sapp coached five all-conference women’s selections, including three first-team choices and three all-conference men’s All-Heart selections, including one first-team pick.
