Mattoon’s Powers awarded Maureen J. Garrity Scholarship for Women at Little People’s banquet

QUINCY — Blair Powers, a junior at Mattoon High School, is the 2024 recipient of the Maureen J. Garrity Scholarship for Women, was presented by the Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships scholarship committee during Monday’s tournament banquet.

The scholarship was established in honor of Garrity, a long-time volunteer for the Little People’s event, and aims to support the education of women who participate in the tournament. Garrity dedicated her life to the well-being of students and the advancement of women in education. Her commitment to supporting young women in their educational pursuits inspired the creation of the scholarship.

Powers, who carries a 4.0 GPA, exemplifies the qualities the scholarship was designed to recognize. Powers is actively involved in volunteering in the Mattoon community. She intends to further her education and golfing career at the college level by applying to Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Jacksonville University and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
