SHELBINA, Mo — Jaaron Durbin and Noah Wilt took advantage of their home course knowledge and shared medalist honors Wednesday as the South Shelby boys golf team won its own invitational at Lakeside Golf Course.

The Cardinals shot a 310, while Palmyra was second at 333 and Canton third at 344.

Durbin and Wilt each posted a round of 73, two strokes clear of the rest of the field. Palmyra’s Tony White was fourth with a 78, while the Panthers’ Jonas Janes was seventh with an 80. Canton’s Trevor Biggerstaff was eighth with an 80.

Seventh-inning rally lifts Eagles

LIBERTY, Ill. — Trailing by three runs heading into the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday, the Liberty baseball team put together a rally to walk off with a 9-8 victory over Rushville-Industry.

Dylan Hocking and Evan Sims opened Liberty’s half of the seventh with back-to-back singles, putting runners at the corners. Reed Sparrow’s groundout drove in the first run of the inning, and Jackson Sims followed by reaching on an error, which allowed another run to score.

After a Levi Hoener single put runners at the corners, Hoener stole second before Jack Sparrow hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed one run to score. An error allowed Hoener to score the winning run.

QHS girls soccer earns WB6 road victory

STERLING, Ill. — The road trip was delayed a day by weather, but the Quincy High School girls soccer team’s offense didn’t stall at all. The Blue Devils picked up a 9-0 victory over Sterling to remain undefeated in Western Big 6 Conference play.

Taylor Routh scored four goals and had an assist for Quincy (8-2-1, 4-0 WB6), while Bri Lannerd finished with a double hat trick — three goals and three assists. Rian Moore had a goal and four assists, and Kirsten Kramer added the other goal. Taylor Fohey posted her sixth shutout of the season.

QND softball team’s offense collects 17 hits

BARRY, Ill. —  Every batter in the Quincy Notre Dame softball team’s lineup collected at least one hit in Wednesday’s 13-1 victory over Western, which included Brooke Boden blasting a three-run home run.

The Raiders collected 17 hits total, getting three apiece from Alyssa Ley and Lanie Fesler. Morgan Zanger and Payton Stupavsky both doubled and five different QND players scored two runs apiece.

Caitlin Bunte earned the victory in the circle, striking out 11 and allowing just three hits.

Blue Devils’ Lowe hammers Bombers’ pitching

QUINCY — Brady Lowe jumpstarted the Quincy High School baseball team’s offense Wednesday, jacking a three-run home run in the first inning of a 12-6 victory over Macomb at the QHS field.

Lowe added a two-run home run in the second inning as the Blue Devils built a 7-0 lead. Tykell Hammers, Jansen Lawson and Nate Konrad had two hits apiece for Quincy, which banged out 11 hits. 

Owen Zanger struck out four over five innings of work to earn the pitching victory.

Chargers keep piling up victories

CARTHAGE, Ill. — The Illini West baseball team used a stellar pitching performance from Max Kinnamon and an opportunistic offense to pick up a 7-1 victory over Canton (Mo.) on Wednesday.

Kinnamon struck out eight, walked three and allowed just two hits. Carter Chapin and Wesley Robertson had two hits apiece for the Chargers and each drove in two runs.

Illini West (14-2) has won three games in a row and 10 of its last 11.
