Unity baseball team runs win streak to 11 straight with Saturday sweep

CONCORD, Ill. — The streak keeps building.

A pair of victories Saturday in the Triopia Slam enabled the Mendon Unity baseball team to extend its winning streak to double digits following a 6-1 victory over Payson Seymour and a 12-0 victory over Triopia. The Mustangs have won 11 games in a row and are 12-2 overall.

Senior right-hander Cody Shaffer threw five scoreless innings without allowing a hit against Payson. He struck out 10 and walked one. Shaffer helped himself by driving in two runs, while Ben McClelland also drove in two runs.

Ashton Ertz had an RBI double for Payson.

Against Triopia, Avery Frese threw a one-hitter in the five-inning affair, striking out three and walking none. Shaffer, McClelland and Miles Moulton each had two hits with Moulton delivering a double.
