Ribbon-cutting ceremony recognizes donors for video screen in Quincy High School gymnasium
QUINCY – The Quincy Public Schools Foundation had a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor community donors who made the video screen in the Quincy High School gymnasium possible at halftime of the girls basketball game versus Galesburg on Jan. 25.
Donors recognized on the project were the Dot Foods Charitable Giving Program and the family of George and Mary Nell Meyer. Another significant donor chose to remain unnamed.
“Dot Foods Charitable Committee is excited to support Quincy High School athletics through this grant approval. We strive to better the communities that surround us and understand the impact athletics have on a child’s life,” Dot Foods corporate safety manager Katie Berens said in a press release.
The video screen was added to the gym as a way to help the girls’ basketball, volleyball and wrestling programs increase their program capacity by generating increased advertising revenue.
The QPS Foundation helped to facilitate this project by applying for the grant from the Dot Foods Charitable Giving Program and by connecting the donors to this project.
“We were happy to help get this project completed,” said Heidi Lanier, executive director of the QPS Foundation. “We love the opportunity to provide resources to our programs that can help them grow to new levels, and this video screen is a great example of that. Not only will this screen make the games and events held in the gym more exciting, but the increased advertising revenue that this screen will generate will help the athletic teams and other programs that use this gym for years to come.”
The foundation annually makes grants to teachers, schools and the district administration in fulfillment of their mission. The foundation provided more than $295,000 of support to the Quincy Public Schools In the last fiscal year and has connected Quincy Public Schools with tens of thousands of dollars from other community organizations.
