QUINCY — The Quincy High School girls basketball team put a disappointing loss behind it.

Another dynamic defensive effort helped do that.

Rock Island made just one field goal in the first quarter of Thursday night’s Western Big 6 Conference game at the QHS gym, trailed by as many as 14 points early and couldn’t generate an attack as the Blue Devils rolled to a 56-33 victory.

Quincy (16-5, 6-2 WB6), which is ranked 10th in the latest Class 4A state poll, was coming off an overtime loss to Columbia (Mo.) Battle in the Sophie Cunningham Classic.

Senior forward Taylor Fohey led the Blue Devils with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while freshman guard Myley Longcor had 12 points, freshman forward Jada Brown finished with 11 points and six rebounds, and senior guard Leah Chevalier had 11 points.
