Two seventh-grade boys basketball teams fall in sectionals

A pair of seventh-grade boys basketball teams vying for spots in the Illinois Elementary Schools Association state tournament fell short of those bids with losses in the sectional Tuesday night.

In Class 3A at Auburn, Quincy Catholic suffered a 38-12 loss to Williamsville, ending the Crusaders’ season with a 12-13 record. Quincy Catholic trailed 4-2 at the end of the first quarter before Williamsville took control with its pressure defense.

In Class 2A at Mendon, West Prairie outlasted Brown County 38-34, handing the Hornets their first loss of the season. Brown County finished with a 26-1 record.
