KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The inability to knock down perimeter shots is keeping the Quincy University men’s basketball team from staying in games.

Two days after shooting just 10.5 percent from 3-point range in a 42-point loss to Grand Valley State, the Hawks managed to make just 4 of 24 3-point attempts in a 75-62 loss to Lake Superior State on Monday night at Kalamazoo College.

The game was played in Kalamazoo, where QU coach Steve Hawkins lived and coached for 20 years, as a charity event to benefit Community Homeworks, which is a non-profit organization that helps people with safe and sustainable housing.

Lake Superior State extended a five-point halftime lead to 20 points as Quincy scored just eight points over the first 14 minutes of the second half. The Hawks went 2 of 20 from the field and 1 of 8 from 3-point range in that stretch.

In the second half, the Hawks shot 21.9 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from 3-point range.

Overall, Quincy shot just 32.3 percent from the field.

Five games into the season, the Hawks (2-3) rank second-to-last in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in both field goal percentage and 3-point percentage.

Senior guard Zion Richardson led the Hawks with 19 points, going 7 of 15 from the field and 0 of 4 from 3-point range. He added five rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Nate Shockey had 12 points off the bench, making 2 of 6 3-pointers.

The Hawks return home to face Judson University at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pepsi Arena.
