WB6 coaches select QHS quarterback as MVP, nine Blue Devils make first-team all-conference
QUINCY — Bradyn Little’s success quarterbacking the Quincy High School football team is more than just a passing fancy.
It’s a full orchestra of talent.
The junior quarterback led the Blue Devils to a 6-0 record in the Western Big 6 Conference and a 9-0 overall regular-season mark, earning first-team all-conference honors and league MVP. He is one of nine QHS players to earn first-team all-league plaudits.
Little completed 113 of 149 passes in league play for 1,702 yards with 22 touchdowns against just three interceptions. Overall, in nine starts heading into Saturday’s Class 7A playoff opener against West Chicago, he has thrown for 2,562 yards with a single-season school record 37 touchdown passes while completing 74.2 percent of his passes.
Joining Little on the All-WB6 first-team offense are wide receivers Tykell Hammers and Adon Byquist, running back Jeraius Rice Jr. and offensive linemen Chris Flachs and Cole Wagy.
Hammers led the WB6 with 36 receptions for 537 yards and seven touchdowns. Overall, the junior has 55 catches for 844 yards and 11 touchdowns. Byquist led the WB6 in receiving yardage, catching 30 passes for 561 yards and seven touchdowns. The senior has 39 catches overall for 689 yards and eight TDs.
Rice led the WB6 in rushing and scoring, piling up 928 yards rushing with 12 TDs while also catching 23 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns. Overall, the junior has rushed for 1,362 yards and 18 touchdowns while catching 32 passes for 357 yards and five scores.
Flachs, a senior left guard, and Wagy, a senior right guard, have anchored an offense that averaged 40.7 points and 458.3 yards per game in WB6 play.
Defensively, the Blue Devils had three players earn first-team All-WB6 honors — sophomore defensive lineman Todd Smith, senior linebacker Ty Douglas and junior cornerback Rico Clay.
Smith had 29 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in six WB6 games, while Douglas piled up 63 tackles with two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Clay had two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, and 16 tackles in WB6 play.
Senior right tackle Conner Cox was Quincy’s lone representative on the All-WB6 second-team offense, while three Blue Devils — senior lineman Ryan Mast, senior linebacker Drennan Carver and senior cornerback Jack Mettemeyer — made the second-team defense.
Senior kicker Justin Beaver was a second-team special teams selection.
Honorable mention selections were senior center Owen Zanger, Smith at left tackle, junior wide receiver Caeden Johannessen, junior defensive lineman Demarius Deverger, senior linebacker Myles Reardon, junior linebacker Ryan Cashman, junior defensive back Jack Hammock and Byquist at defensive back.
