Williams, Pirates uses efficient approach to overwhelm Bulldogs in first half of NCMC victory
MEXICO, Mo. — Aneyas Williams’ play gets described in a variety of ways, often with adjectives such as electric or dazzling.
Friday night, a new one was added to the list.
Efficient.
Williams had only four touches offensively during the Hannibal football team’s 61-7 victory over Mexico in North Central Missouri Conference play, but the all-state Mr. Everything turned those four touches into three touchdowns and 128 yards of total offense.
He added a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown that made it 28-0 with 4:13 remaining in the first quarter. The Pirates led 55-0 at halftime and finished the game with a running clock.
Williams, who has committed to the University of Notre Dame, scored the Pirates’ first four touchdowns. He had a 66-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game and followed it up by hauling in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Waylon Anders on the next possession and then taking a 45-yard scoring pass to the end zone.
His interception return came on the Bulldogs’ ensuing possession, and Williams’ night was essentially done after that.
Hannibal, ranked sixth in Class 4 with a 4-1 record, had 374 yards of total offense while limiting Mexico to 145 yards. Mike Ferriera led the Pirates with 113 yards rushing on 10 carries, while Anders completed 9 of 9 passes for 185 yards and three scores.
