ROLLA, Mo. — Hannibal boys soccer coach Eric Hill couldn’t have asked for anything better than two clean sheets to open the season.

The Pirates blanked Rolla 3-0 and Neosho 3-0 in the Rolla Shootout on Saturday.

Those teams combined for 26 victories a year ago with Rolla beating Hannibal 3-2 in overtime in the season opener. A stingy defense and an opportunistic offense changed the outcome this team.

Junior forward Bodie Rollins scored four goals in the two games combined, while Colton Dryden scored twice. Thomas Janes and Maddox Tharp each had an assist, while Clayton Neisen posted a pair of shutouts.

The Pirates play their home opener at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Quincy Notre Dame at Veterans Field.
