Muddy River Showcase Spotlight: Palmyra’s Bronson Juette

The Muddy River Showcase featuring 40 of the area’s top senior basketball players from Illinois and Missouri takes place June 17 at John Wood Community College’s Student Activity Center. The girls game begins at 4 p.m. with the boys game to follow at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door.

PALMYRA, Mo. — The recognition went to the underclassmen, and rightfully so. Players such as junior guard Bear Bock and junior Carson Hicks made the Palmyra boys basketball team formidable, especially within the Clarence Cannon Conference.

Yet, it was the senior leadership that carried the Panthers to a 20-win season, a second-place finish in the CCC and a district runner-up spot.

Bronson Juette was at the forefront of that. Two years ago, when Brian Rea left Payson Seymour to coach at Palmyra, he carried with him a plan to change the culture and create a different environment. Juette bought in and helped pave the way for others to do the same.

What took place was a jump from 14 victories in Rea’s first season at the helm to a 20-8 record last season and expectations for more next season. Replacing Juette’s tenacity and shooting ability will be key to moving forward.

Juette will represent Palmyra on the Missouri squad for the second Muddy River Showcase, taking place June 17 at John Wood Community College’s Student Activity Center.
