Missouri golf roundup: Six area golfers head to state in Class 2, pair of Tigers qualify in Class 1
HANNIBAL, Mo. — Six area golfers qualified for the Class 2 boys state golf tournament by finishing among the top 15 individuals Monday at the Class 2 District 2 tournament at Norwoods Golf Course.
South Shelby and Palmyra finished third and fourth, respectively, in the team standings, but only the top two teams advance. Lutheran St. Charles won the team title with a 339, while Hermann and South Shelby both carded a 347. Hermann advanced on a scorecard playoff.
Palmyra was fourth with a 356, while Highland (398) and Monroe City (398) finished in the top 10.
South Shelby’s Casen Giover shot a 2-over 74 to finish second individually. Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl earned medalist honors with a 6-under 66. Palmyra’s Skeeter Kroeger tied for third with a 9-over 81.
Also advancing to state as individuals were South Shelby’s Jaaron Durbin (87), Palmyra’s Jonas Janes (88), Highland’s Payton Miller (89) and South Shelby’s PJ Schmidt (91).
The Class 2 state tournament will take place May 15-16 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.
Pair of Tigers qualify for state in Class 1
MOBERLY, Mo. — The Canton boys golf team missed qualifying for the Class 1 state tournament by one stroke, finishing third in the Class 1 District 2 tournament Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Course.
Salisbury won the district title with a 326, while Marceline was second at 353. Canton posted a 354.
Individually, Canton’s Trevor Biggerstaff finished seventh with an 11-over 81 to advance to the state tourney. He’ll be joined by Avery Uhlmeyer, who shot a 12-over 82 to tie for eighth. The Class 1 state tournament is May 15-16 at the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
