Lannerd’s goal secures overtime victory as Blue Devils return to winning ways
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Bri Lannerd’s goal two minutes into overtime enabled the Quincy High School girls soccer team to change course and get back to winning ways Monday night.
Coming off back-to-back losses on the road, the Blue Devils overcame allowing a tying goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation to earn a 2-1 Western Big 6 Conference victory against Rock Island Alleman at the Alleman Sports Complex.
Lannerd scored off a Rian Moore assist in the 82nd minute, and the Blue Devils snuffed out the final 18 minutes of the two overtime periods.
“Rian had a great ball, I just happened to be there to finish it,” Lannerd told the Dispatch/Argus. “But that was all our team working together and moving the ball and Rian played the ball beautifully into the box.”
Lannerd had given the Blue Devils (9-2-3, 5-1 WB6) the lead in the 23rd minute when she beat slipped a shot through the legs of Alleman keeper Claire Hulke. Quincy outshot Alleman 18-8 with Hulke making 16 saves.
QHS keeper Taylor Fohey made seven saves, but Alleman jumped on a deflected shot in the 71st minute with Gretchen Ellis scoring the equalizer.
The Blue Devils head to Burlington, Iowa, on Thursday to play in the Tournament of Champions at the Burlington RecPlex.
