HANNIBAL, Mo. — No one wanted to go home, not until every last opportunity to score had been exhausted.

That explains why the Hannibal baseball team’s 15-14 victory over Quincy High School at Veterans Field on Wednesday took 10 innings and 3 hours, 45 minutes to complete.

Ultimately, a ground ball by Pirates freshman Tre Hoskins with one out and bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th decided it. Evan Harsell scored when the Blue Devils were unable to turn the fielder’s choice into a double play, allowing the Pirates to rally for the second time in a score-or-go-home situation.

Hannibal (7-8) went to the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 13-9, but Bodie Rollins drew a two-out walk, Cooper Scott singled to left field and Hoskins had an infield single to load the bases. Kane Wilson smacked a bases-clearing triple to right field and then scored the tying run when Colton Dryden reached on an error.

Neither team threatened in the eighth inning, and the Pirates turned a double play to end a threat in the top of the ninth. A pair of groundouts left two Hannibal runners on bases in the bottom of the ninth.

In the 10th, Quincy’s Owen Zanger walked with two outs, Alex Logan was hit by a pitch and Kyle Taylor singled to center field to plate Zanger with the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the frame, the Pirates’ Waylon Anders singled with one out, Harsell walked and Graysen Crabill doubled to drive in Anders with the tying run and move Harsell to third. Scott was intentionally walked before Hoskins ended the game with his grounder.

Wilson finished 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and eight RBIs, while Anders was 3 for 6 with two runs scored and Scott was 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Evan Sohn, Joe Schroeder and Logan each went 3 for 5 with two RBIs for the Blue Devils (4-8), while Tykell Hammers was 2 for 6 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
