Holiday Tournament Roundup: Panthers take fifth in Bloomington, Indians to play for title at Greenview

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Central-Southeastern girls basketball used a strong effort against top-ranked Winnebago on Tuesday to catapult itself to two victories Wednesday in the small-school bracket of the State Farm Holiday Classic.

The Panthers opened the day with a 60-48 victory over Annawan, holding the Braves to six points in the third quarter while scoring 33 points in the second half. Amanda Stephens led C-SE with 15 points, while Lauren Miller added 13.

In the fifth-place game, C-SE beat Sherrard 38-31, grabbing the lead with a 11-5 spurt in the first quarter and never trailing. Brilyn Lantz led the Panthers with 17 points.

Indians to play for championship

GREENVIEW, Ill. — After opening the tournament with a lopsided victory over Grace Christian, the Payson Seymour boys basketball team nearly doubled up Cornerstone Christian in the first half Wednesday and posted a 60-45 victory to advance to the championship game of the Greenview Holiday Tournament.

The Indians (9-3) will face North Fulton for the title at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Pirates fall in close contest

ROLLA, Mo. — The Hannibal boys basketball team suffered a 59-55 loss to Lincoln Prep in the consolation bracket of the US Bank Holiday Tournament at Missouri S&T’s Gibson Arena. Aaris Stolte led the Pirates with 29 points, while Courtland Watson added 10 points.
