FARMINGTON, Ill. — Certain moments cannot be forgotten.

Try October 5 for example.

With the Quincy Notre Dame cheering section split between two major events — the boys soccer team played at Quincy High School, while the volleyball team played host to Macomb — the Bombers brought a sizable, boisterous crowd to The Pit.

A rematch of last year’s sectional championship won in straight sets by the Raiders turned into a classic regular-season matchup. Macomb won in three sets, and its student section spilled onto the court afterward, taking group pictures in the middle of the floor.

It became an indelible image lingering with the Raiders for the past four weeks.

“We hadn’t forgotten,” senior middle hitter Abbey Schreacke said.

Rewriting that history — both with a victory and a postgame photo — became highly important. QND gained a measure of revenge Wednesday night, outlasting Macomb 25-16, 25-27, 25-12 to win the Class 2A Farmington Sectional championship.

“Amazing,” QND sophomore setter Annie Eaton said. “It’s awesome seeing our hard work pay off, and getting that revenge factor against Macomb is just great.”

Holding the sectional plaque while being swarmed by the QND student cheering section emphasized what the Raiders had done.

“We get the chance to do it when it really mattered,” Schreacke said.
