The rundown: QU volleyball team keeps rolling, Unity-Payson qualifies for playoffs, QU men’s soccer team’s losing skid reaches six

A mix of prep football, collegiate volleyball and collegiate soccer made Friday a busy day and night. Here’s a look at some of the highlights:

• The Quincy University women’s volleyball team continued its dominance of NCAA Division II foes throughout the Midwest, winning a pair of matches in the Midwest Regional Crossover in Hammond, Ind. The Hawks beat Wayne State 24-26, 25-18, 25-27, 25-16 as Emily Rehagen had 17 kills and Makayla Knoblauch dished out 52 assists. Quincy followed up with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 victory over Trevecca Nazarene with Alice Pavan recording 16 kills and an .800 attack percentage. The Hawks are 18-1 overall.

• The Unity-Payson football team made itself eligible for the playoffs, beating Carrollton 46-0 to improve to 5-3 overall. The Mustangs can guarantee themselves a playoff berth by beating Winchester West Central on the road next week.

• The Palmyra football team picked up its first victory of the season, beating Highland 22-14 in overtime.

• The Illini West football team gave itself a chance at reaching the playoffs by defeating West Hancock 30-0 to move to 4-4 overall. The Chargers must beat undefeated, state-ranked Macomb at home next Friday to qualify for the postseason.

• The Quincy University women’s soccer team enjoyed its highest scoring game of the season, beating William Jewell 3-0 at Legends Stadium. Ella Wolfard and Abbey Haas each scored a first-half goal, while Jessica Felix had an unassisted goal early in the second half to put away the Cardinals.

• The Culver-Stockton College women’s volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven consecutive matches, winning twice in a triangular at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Triangular in St. Louis. The Wildcats beat Baptist Bible College 25-11, 25-21, 25-6 and knocked off UHSP 16-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-18. C-SC is 16-5 overall.

• The Quincy University men’s soccer team was assessed four red cards in a 3-2 loss to William Jewell College at Legends Stadium. The Hawks have lost six consecutive matches and fell to 0-8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy has been outscored 23-4 during its losing streak, which matches the longest skid in program history.
