MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois University senior guard Trenton Massner was one of six men’s basketball players named to the preseason All-Summit League first team, while the Leathernecks were picked to finish seventh in the 10-team preseason poll.

Massner, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Wapello, Iowa, is the Leathernecks’ top returning scorer at 16.4 points per game, while also being the top returnee in rebounding (6.2), assists (4.), steals (1.8) and blocked shots (0.6).

He was a second-team All-Summit League selection last season, while also being named to the All-Defensive and All-Newcomer teams. Massner ranked fourth in the Summit League in scoring, second in assists and first in steals last season.

“It’s an honor to be named to any team and earn that recognition,” WIU coach Rob Jeter said. “It shows the respect people around our conference have for Trenton and what he has been able to accomplish.”

The Leathernecks finished sixth in the Summit League last season with a 16-16 overall record and 7-11 conference mark.

The Leathernecks open the year with an exhibition game against Monmouth College on November 1. The regular season tips off at Illinois State on November 7.
