Men’s Basketball

At Sedalia, Mo.

John Wood Community College 92, Central Methodist JV 71: The Trail Blazers, ranked 14th in the NJCAA Division II preseason national poll, opened their season with a balanced effort. Sophomore forward Ryan Anglin led JWCC with 22 points, while Ja’Veon Taylor had 14 points and Jarvis Jennings added 13. The Trail Blazers led 46-33 at halftime with Taylor scoring 12 points in the first 20 minutes. The Trail Blazers will face State Fair Community College, an NJCAA D-I program, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

At Van DixHorn Arena, Deerfield, Ill.

Culver-Stockton College 87, Judson 76: The Wildcats won their third straight game to open the season with the victory in the Trinity International Classic. C-SC had five players finish in double figures, led by Jalen Blaize with 20 points. Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Javon Modester had 12 points, seven assists and two steals. The Wildcats will face Trinity International at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s Basketball

At Charles Field House, Canton, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College 71, Williams Baptist 65: The Wildcats scored 29 points in the third quarter to erase an eight-point halftime deficit and pick up the victory in their opening game of the Oak Hill Inn and Suites Classic. Aaliyah Ortiz led C-SC with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists while also going 8 of 11 from the free-throw line. Addison Newbon added 12 points, while Kasie Newson had eight points and 10 rebounds. The Wildcats will face Hannibal-LaGrange at 2 p.m. Saturday.

At Moberly, Mo.

Moberly Area Community College 62, John Wood Community College 23: The No. 20 Greyhounds rolled to the victory in the Oerschlin Classic. Madison McFerrin led the Trail Blazers (1-1) with eight points.

Women’s Volleyball

At Pepsi Arena

Quincy University d. Southern Indiana: Down 2-1 heading to the fourth set, the Hawks rallied for a 22-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 15-10 victory in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. Emily Rehagen led Quincy with 26 kills and 13 digs, while Makayla Knoblauch had 53 assists and 18 digs. America Galvan finished with 25 digs, while Alyssa Grimm had 12 kills and Mattie Norris and Elizabeth Lightner had 11 kills apiece. The Hawks are 14-12 overall and 8-7 in the GLVC.
