Guthrie looking for late birdie to change momentum going into second round
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Luke Guthrie’s final hole Thursday could be the boost necessary to change his weekend trajectory.
The Quincy native made a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole at the The Landings Club’s Magnolia Course, allowing him to finish his final nine holes at 1-under 34 and post a 3-over 73 in the opening round of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School’s final stage.
Guthrie sits tied for 105th, but he rebounded from a tough start and potentially created some needed momentum.
He will move to the Marshwood Course for Friday’s second round, where he will start on No. 1 at 8:07 a.m. He’s playing with Gregor Main (3-over 73) and Davis Thompson (2-over 72).
Guthrie opened the first round with a bogey on the par-4 10th hole, got it back with a birdie on the par-4 12 before a four-hole stretch proved costly. Guthrie bogeyed a pair of par-3s and took a double-bogey on the par-4 16th. He was 4-over 39 on that first nine.
