Rosen, Schuering, Blue Devils sweep WB6 cross country championships

STERLING, Ill. — Fiker Rosen made it a clean sweep. Anna Schuering and the rest of the Quincy High School cross country runners did, too.

Rosen won his fourth consecutive Western Big 6 Conference individual championship while leading the QHS boys to back-to-back titles during Thursday’s conference meet at Hoover Park. Meanwhile, Schuering won her second consecutive conference crown and led the QHS girls to their second straight title as well.

Rosen outkicked Sterling’s Dale Johnson, finishing in 15 minutes, 18 seconds. Johnson clocked in at 15:21.2. The QHS senior was one of three Blue Devils to finish in the top 10, helping them post 43 points. Geneseo finished second with 49 points.

The Blue Devils’ Eric McClelland finished fourth in 16:25.6, while Ayden Triplett was 10th in 16:49.7. All three Quincy runners earned all-conference honors.

The QHS girls were more dominant, finishing with 28 points and well ahead of the pack. Geneseo was second with 77 points.

Schuering crossed the finish without another runner in sight, finishing in 18:42.1. United Township’s Maddie Miller was second in 19:04.8. Quincy’s Alexandria Meyers took third in 19:25.2, with the Blue Devils’ Olivia Schuering in fourth in 19:45.9. QHS freshman Amick McClelland finished 10th in 20:22.7.
