Prep Softball
At Flower City Park, Palmyra, Mo.
Class 2 District 5: Third-seeded Highland’s Payton Miller tossed a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory over sixth-seeded Mark Twain in the quarterfinals. Miller struck out 10 and walked none. She was backed by an offense that scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the fifth. Emma Harshberger, Hannah Mead and Miller each had two hits, with Miller adding a double.
Bronwyn Harding and Audrey Ross each had a single for Mark Twain. Harding took the loss, striking out nine, walking none and allowing three earned runs.
The Cougars (10-14) will face second-seeded Palmyra in Friday’s semifinals. The Panthers (11-6) advanced with a 10-0 victory over seventh-seeded Louisiana. Kennedy Wilson tossed a five-inning shutout.
At the Cotton Bowl, Canton, Mo.
Class 1 District 9: Top-seeded Canton rolled into the district championship with a 16-0, four-inning victory over fourth-seeded Knox County. The Tigers pounded out 14 hits and took advantage of four errors. Kadee Guilfoyle went 3 for 3 with four RBIs, while Kinsey Biggerstaff was 2 for 2 with two triples, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Every Canton starter had at least one hit and seven of the nine starters had at least one RBI. Kenzie Guilfoyle allowed three hits and struck out seven to earn the victory.
The Tigers (18-4) will face second-seeded North Shelby (16-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday for the district championship. The Raiders beat Scotland County 4-0 to advance. Natalie Thrasher and Whitney Snow each allowed one hit as they combined on the shutout. Thrasher struck out five and walked one over four innings, while Snow struck out eight and walked one over the final three innings. Five of North Shelby’s seven hits were doubles.
Girls Volleyball
At Mount Sterling, Ill.
Brown County d. Pleasant Hill: The Hornets scored their 25th victory of the season in their final home match, beating the Wolves 25-21, 25-10. Gabby McGath had 17 assists, six digs and four aces. Cortni Law had five kills and Katey Flynn added four kills for Brown County, which is 25-3 overall.
At Pittsfield, Ill.
Unity d. Pittsfield: Caroline Knox had 13 service points and four aces as the Mustangs won 25-20, 25-22. Ashlynn Arnsman had 10 kills, while Kyra Carothers added nine kills and Taylor Nichols dished out 19 assists. Unity is now 17-6.
At Liberty, Ill.
Central d. Liberty: The Panthers posted a 25-16, 25-19 victory. Cora Schuette led the Eagles with five kills, 11 digs and two blocks, while Kenley Kurfman had 10 digs.
At Fulton, Mo.
Hannibal d. Fulton: Bella Falconer became the Pirates’ career leader in kills as she had 11 kills in the 25-15, 25-9, 25-14 victory. Falconer now has 688 kills in her career. She added 10 digs and three aces. Kate Maune had nine kills and nine digs, while Nora Hark had six kills and 15 assists and Ashlyn Hess had 23 assists and six aces.
Women’s Soccer
At Bracewell Stadium, Burlington, Iowa
Culver-Stockton College 9, Iowa Wesleyan 0: The Wildcats picked up a non-conference victory as Montse Caparros scored four goals and Coral Dillie scored twice. Kirstin Jannin and Kimberly Williams each had two assists as C-SC improved to 9-3-1 overall.
Women’s Volleyball
At Johnson Wellness Center, Des Moines, Iowa
Grand View d. Culver-Stockton College: The No. 24 Vikings rolled to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-22 victory in Heart of America Athletic Conference action. Madison McClain had seven kills and nine digs for the Wildcats, who fell to 7-15 overall and 3-8 in the Heart.
