Quincy sending seven junior high golfers to IESA state tournaments
QUINCY — Five Quincy golfers qualified for the Illinois Elementary School Association boys state tournament following top-10 finishes at the Lincoln Sectional held at the Lincoln Elks Golf Course.
Two Quincy girls qualified for the IESA state tournament as well.
Ty Novosel, an eighth grader at Quincy Junior High School, shot a 69 to take individual medalist honors and win by nine strokes. Keeden Orpet-Hulett, a seventh grader in Quincy’s parochial school system, finished second with a 78.
Also advancing were two parochial school students — eighth grader Grant Lepper and sixth grader Michael Lepper — who shot 86 and 92, respectively. QJHS seventh grader Andrew Ali tied for 10th with a 93.
At Arrowhead Country Club in Edelstein, Carthage seventh grader Nolan Murphy finished second with a 79.
A pair of parochial seventh graders — Nancy Scholz and Natalie Druffel — finished in the top 16 at the girls sectional at Lincoln Greens Golf Course in Springfield. Scholz was eighth with a 108 and Druffel tied for ninth with a 111.
The girls state tournament takes place September 15 and the boys tournament September 16 at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora.
