Dominant run on Hoing’s serve sends QND volleyball team to 10th straight victory
QUINCY — As each Emma Hoing topspin serve befuddled the Rushville-Industry volleyball players, the Quincy Notre Dame advantage grew more insurmountable.
“It’s kind of fun,” said Hoing, the junior outside hitter who enjoyed a nine-point run on her serve during the second set of Wednesday night’s match at The Pit. “I just want to keep going and going.”
The run ended after Raiders coach Courtney Kvitle subbed Hoing off the service line with a 15-1 lead, but the dominance never faded.
QND improved to 10-0 with a 25-14, 25-3 victory.
“It’s just the fact we had fun,” said Hoing, who had seven of the Raiders’ 13 aces. “We went out there and had fun while we played.”
Lively and energetic is a good way to describe the Raiders during their season-opening win streak.
“Every time you step on the court, you should enjoy it,” Hoing said. “Always have fun.”
Sophomore setter Annie Eaton had nine assists, while the Raiders finished with 11 kills spread across six players. Addison Van Hecke had three aces. It’s the kind of depth and balance QND needs to stay on course in chasing lofty goals.
“We know what we want to accomplish,” Hoing said. “We want to go to state, but we really don’t think about it too much. We just go out there and have our fun and keep our record undefeated.”
