QUINCY — The John Wood Community College women’s soccer team looked right at home on its new turf.

Two minutes into Thursday’s home opener, the Trail Blazers’ Alondra Zacarias-Ortiz scored off a Bella Jaramillo assist and carried a one-goal lead into halftime against Southeastern (Iowa) Community College. Just like the 1-0 lead JWCC had at halftime of the season opener at East Central College in Union, Mo., this one slipped away, too.

The Blackhawks rallied for two second-half goals and a 2-1 victory.

This was the first game played on what will be the Trail Blazers’ permanent on-campus home. The field is laid out to the north of the Student Activity Center on a patch of land that has been transformed from a soggy mess to a groomed, crowned regulation field.
