QUINCY — The Quincy University men’s soccer team appears to have the right mix of experience and talented new blood to make its attack electric.

Eliminate some youthful mistakes defensively and the Hawks could find themselves in the heart of a title chase in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Thursday night in an exhibition match at Legends Stadium, the Hawks used second-half goals from a pair of freshmen to propel them to a 3-2 victory over Missouri Valley College, ranked sixth in the NAIA preseason national poll.

Tied at 1 at halftime, QU freshman midfielder Lewis Chapman gave the Hawks the lead when he scored off an assist from Kamou Harris. Freshman midfielder Jake Ellis made it 3-1 advantage when he buried a diving header. Senior forward Macker Little scored the Hawks’ goal in the first half.

Quincy will face Simpson College, an NCAA Division III program, in an exhibition at 6 p.m. Sunday at Legends Stadium and open the regular season August 25 at Wisconsin-Parkside.
